Either by two wheels or two feet (or three wheels or four, etc.) residents of Madison's various communities joined those on the north side of town on Sunday for the first ever edition of Ride the Drive to move off the isthmus.

The event featured various north side community groups, live music, bicycle demos, arts and crafts, kids activities, garden tours, and a whole lot more. You can see the full listing of vendors and participants, as well as the route map, online here.

Dane101 photographer Rebecca Hovel was on hand to record some of the goings on at Ride the Drive. You can view the full gallery of her photos at Dane101's Flickr here, though we've also included a few choice examples below:

Did not enjoy. And I know that makes me a big old grump, but seriously, this is a fucking city, not an amusement park, so I really wish they would stop shutting down major thoroughfares just for gimmicky kicks.

I regret this comment. I'm still not crazy about the idea, but I do appreciate that it represented a net gain for the neighborhood, economically and otherwise. But it did really affect my life in a significant and unfortunate way that couldn't have been planned around on Sunday, so I was still pretty heated on Monday.
