June Board Game Night: Dominion at the Union!
Post by Kat Kosiec on 6/8/2012 12:52pm
This month, we continue with our theme of playing Spiel des Jahres winners for Board Game Night. Dominion was the 2009 Spiel des Jahres winner, and also was a highly requested nominee for a future board game night.
In Dominion, each player begins with an identical deck of cards. As the game progresses, they “purchase” cards from a selection of cards in the center, building their deck of cards and constructing their kingdom from estates and coppers to (hopefully) gold and provinces. The monarch who has the most victory points at the end of the game wins.
"You must race to get as much of the unclaimed land as possible, fending them off along the way. To do this you will hire minions, construct buildings, spruce up your castle, and fill the coffers of your treasury. Your parents wouldn't be proud, but your grandparents, on your mother's side, would be delighted." -Dominion
We’ll play 4 games of 4 players each, for a total of 16. As always, we thank Pegasus Games for helping provide boards and coupons. We’ll meet in the Rathskeller at Memorial Union, just look for the group of us with the Dominion decks and the pitchers of Hopalicious.
Space is limited to 16 gamers. Please pre-register by sending an email with your name and the name of your favorite board game (or one you've always wanted to try) to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have your own copy of Dominion we can use, please let Kat know too!

Kat moved to the Madison area in 2006 to complete her Bachelor's degree at UW-Madison. After graduation, Kat found herself unable to leave Dane County, mostly due to her love of the local culinary scene, the farmer's markets, roller derby and the dismal job prospects for a foolish young woman who chose to major in journalism. When she's not blogging for dane101, she likes to discover new music, watch Bollywood movies and eat at her favorite local restaurant of the month.
